The chemistry staff provides routine testing and emergency/operating room support and is responsible for testing blood sugar, cholesterol, cardiac enzymes, liver enzymes, thyroid and kidney function.

Microbiology
This section is responsible for the testing of cultures from various locations of the body. Common diagnoses from these specimens include urinary tract infections, strep throat and wound infections. The staff can also provide guidance on which type of antibiotic to use with some diagnoses.

Hematology
Encompassing the areas of coagulation and urinalysis. This area assists in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of several types of cancers. Common tests include hemoglobin, CBC, white count, red count and more. The coagulation staff monitors the flow of the blood, measuring its clotting capabilities as well as monitoring current coagulation treatment, such as Coumadin (a blood thinner) therapy. In the urinalysis area, testing is used to help diagnose urinary tract infections, kidney disorders, sexually transmitted diseases, diabetes and more. Blood in the urine is also detected.

Histology
The body's tissues and fluids are tested in this area. This department is often utilized to diagnose cancer, and staff often works closely with surgeons to diagnose illness while patients are still in surgery.
